Poultry Africa 2019: Day 1, Nigeria made bold appearance.

The second edition of Poultry Africa organized by VNU Exhibitions, Europe was flagged off on Tuesday 1st October 2019 in the serene city of Kigali, capital of Rwanda. The First edition also held in the same venue in 2017. The organizers apparently were drawn to the inviting enviroment of Kigali as the new business hub in Africa.

Nigerian poultry stakeholders are very conspicuous at the ongoing conference in Kigali, with over 40 delegates attending the first day event dedicated to technical sessions and roundtable business discussions.  The Poultry Association of Nigeria (PAN) Kano chapter was particularly well represented by strong delegation which includes the association’s Chairman, Mr Umaru Usman  Kibiya, vice chairman,  Dr Usman Gwarzo and the general secretary, Mr Ibrahim Nuhu.

Among the exciting talks during the first day leadership conference was that of Mrs Comfort Kyerewa Acheampong of National Egg Campaign of Ghana who elaborated on the strategies being used to increase per capita egg consumption of Ghana. According to her, the campaign has achieved significant milestone pushing up egg consumption by over 150% in Ghana. The layer poultry farmers in Ghana are currently smiling to the bank as a direct benefit of the campaign. Nigerian delegates attending the conference agreed that a similar strategy may be needed in Nigeria to tackle the incessant problem of egg glut. Earlier Dr Nan-Dirk Mulder of Rabobank, Netherlands, had presented extensive data on the investment opportunities in African poultry of which Nigeria was highlighted as one of the center points around which much growth will occur in the next few decades.

The conference continues on Wednesday and Thursday with exhibitions by over 100 poultry inputs and machinery manufacturers. LIVESTONEWS is stationed in Kigali to bring you fresh and daily reports of the conference.
