Graduates of the Department of Animal Sciences of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, were the cynosure of all eyes at the 2019 Graduate Animal Scientist (GAS) induction ceremony, as they carted six of the coveted prizes in the 2019 GAS examination, which was conducted by the Nigeria Institute of Animal Sciences (NIAS). The event which took place on Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at the First Bank Theatre, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Ibadan is the southwest region schedule of the 2019 induction ceremonies. Five other ceremonies have been slated for the other five geopolitical zones of the country to cater for graduates from those regions.
The southwest induction ceremony cover graduates from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile – Ife; University of Ibadan, Ibadan; Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta; Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, Ogbomoso; Ekiti State University, Ado – Ekiti; Landmark University, Omu – Aran; and Osun State University, Osogbo.
ASIPA Waheed Adebayo made OAU, Ile-Ife proud as he won the overall Best student in the 2019 GAS examination as well as the overall best student in the Beef and Dairy Cattle discipline.

- Overall Best Student in Sheep and Goats in 2019 Graduate Animal Scientist Examination – DARAMOLA, MERCY FUNMILAYO
The 2019 GAS examination was written in two batches by a total of 463 graduates of animal science from all over the country.
While admonishing the new GAS inductees, the registrar of Nigeria Institute of Animal Science, Prof. E.A. Iyayi, charged them to be proud of their profession and be prominent in the various NIAS activities as events unfold. He also highlighted the gains the Institute has made in enhancing the career of Animal Scientists in the civil service and livestock industry. He concluded that things are surely getting better and the new generation of animal scientists stands to benefit a lot from the efforts being made the by the Institute.
The venue of the ceremony was filled beyond its capacity with dignitaries, inductees and their parents and other guests. Among the dignitaries at the occasion were Dr. G.O. Oyediji, pioneer NIAS Registrar, Prof. S.S. Abiola, member of NIAS Board of Fellows, Dr. Tolu Ososanya, Fellow of the NIAS Postgraduate College and ASAN General Secretary, Prof. O.K. Adekunle, Dean, Faculty of Agriculture, OAU, Ile-Ife (representing the VC, OAU, Ile-Ife), Dr. S.O.K. Fajemilehin, HOD Animal Production, Ekiti State University (representing the VC of EKSU), Prof. T.A. Adedeji, HOD Animal Production and Health, Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso (representing the VC of LAUTECH), Prof. A.E. Salako, HOD Animal Science, Univerity of Ibadan, Dr. V.O. Asaolu, HOD Animal Nutrition and Biochemistry, LAUTECH and Dr. J.A. Odedire, who presented graduates of Obafemi Awolowo University for the induction ceremony on behalf of the HOD, Animal Sciences, OAU, Ile-Ife.
