The office of the Regional Disease Surveillance Systems Enhancement Project (REDISSE) within the Ministry of Agriculture, Gombe state has carried out fumigation of live bird markets and veterinary clinics within the state capital on Wednesday 25th March 2020 to check the spread of covid-19 in the state.
Dr Mishe Dauda, an officer with REDISSE said this exercise will be carried out in various livestock hotspots (live bird markets and veterinary clinics) all over the state to ensure that both urban and rural areas are properly fumigated.
Since animals are known to sometimes spread other diseases to humans, it was highly recommended that veterinarians, animal handlers and animal scientists should wash their hands after being exposed to animals. When handling and caring for animals, basic hygienic precautions should be implemented always and these should includes hand washing before and after being around or handling animals, their food, or supplies.
